Summary:

The Security System Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting security systems for residential and commercial properties. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, security technologies, and building codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, install, and commission security systems for residential and commercial properties, including alarm systems, access control systems, and video surveillance systems
  • Conduct site surveys to assess security needs and develop project plans
  • Select and purchase security equipment based on specifications and budget
  • Install and configure security equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines
  • Commission and test security systems to ensure proper functionality
  • Troubleshoot and repair security systems
  • Maintain security systems, including preventive maintenance and upgrades
  • Document security system installations and maintenance activities
  • Comply with all applicable building codes and regulations
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest security technologies and trends

Qualifications:

  • Relative apprenticeship Qualification, security systems engineering, Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Experience in, installing, and maintaining security systems such as intruder alarms and CCTV
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and security protocols
  • Experience with a variety of security technologies, including alarm systems, access control systems, and video surveillance systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in electrical schematics and drawings
  • Experience with network protocols and security systems software
  • Ability to read and interpret building codes and regulations
  • Ability to operate power tools and hand tools
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Work Environment:

  • May work in a variety of settings, including residential and commercial properties, as well as construction sites
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, and hazardous materials. Appropriate EHS experience and adhere to use of correct PPE

Travel:

  • May be required to travel to different locations to install and maintain security systems
